Start with clean entries

A giveaway picker is only as fair as the entry list. Before you draw, decide whether duplicate names should be removed or counted as extra chances.

Use Giveaway Winner Picker for names, handles, email aliases, or tickets. Use Raffle Winner Picker when the workflow is closer to a prize draw or numbered raffle.

Equal entries vs bonus entries

For equal chances, keep one line per eligible person:

Alex
Taylor
Jordan
Morgan
Casey

For bonus entries, use weights so the odds are visible:

Alex
Taylor | 2
Jordan | 5
Morgan
Casey | 3

In that list, Jordan has five chances and Casey has three. This is clearer than pasting the same name many times, and it makes the rules easier to audit.

Drawing multiple winners

If you need several winners, decide whether one person can win more than once. Most giveaways should use no-repeat or elimination mode so each winner is removed from the next round.

For a single prize, draw one winner and copy the result. For multiple prizes, draw in prize order and keep a visible record:

  1. Grand prize
  2. Second prize
  3. Third prize
  4. Backup winner

If the winner is ineligible or does not respond, use the backup process you announced before the draw.

Explain fairness before the draw

A short rules note builds trust:

  • Entries were cleaned before the draw.
  • Bonus entries are represented as weights.
  • Winners are removed after selection if repeats are not allowed.
  • Results use browser-based random generation.
  • The result can be copied or saved for the announcement.

For a sanity check before a weighted campaign, run Randomness Test. It compares observed results with expected probability over many simulated draws.

Use Random Number Picker for ticket numbers. Use Random Draw Generator for lots or seats. Use Random Name Picker when the draw is not a public giveaway. Use Wheel of Names Alternative when you need a reusable list without rebuilding a wheel.

Giveaway checklist

  1. Remove ineligible entries.
  2. Decide whether duplicates are extra chances.
  3. Convert bonus entries into weights.
  4. Turn on no-repeat mode for multiple winners.
  5. Copy the result before announcing.

A fair giveaway is mostly preparation. The picker should make the final draw quick, readable, and easy to explain.
